Twenty-three percent of North American car owners still prefer to purchase and drive white vehicles. That’s followed by black (19 percent), gray (17 percent), silver (15 percent), red (10 percent) and blue (8 percent).
It was, however, all about color for PPG at this year’s SEMA show in Las Vegas. That’s because its research suggests that 60 percent of consumers identify color as a major deciding factor in their purchasing decision.
So, PPG’s Automotive Refinish booth was awash in the company’s colors, the hottest trends in paint schemes and its finishes. PPG also brought show attendees some of the industry’s elite painters who prefer to work with PPG Automotive Refinish products to showcase just what their products can do.
For 2016-17 automotive coating colors, PPG has announced a five-palette collection that they are calling Colorography. It features more than 60 exterior shades that are anything but white, black and gray.
Watch for Hyper HD, IM Perfect, Knight’s Watch and Lucid Dreams. According to PPG, its Hyper HD brings bright hues with the layered effects of tinted clears and tri-coats. IM Perfect is a more subdued organic palette influenced by nature and metals. Knight’s Watch features dark, dramatic jewel tones and blackened metal shades, while Lucid Dreams offers pastel tones. It offers quite a few options for those 23 percent of the American public you prefer white.
PPG’s SEMA booth was just the place to showcase what a winning combination their colors and a little imagination can make. Check out the new palettes and let your imagination take over.
