The Jim Harbaugh era in San Francisco officially came to an end in 2015 and it was a bit hard to digest for many of 49ers fans. After 4 years, Harbaugh left with a career record of 44-19-1, along with a 5-3 record in the postseason.
Once again we are losing the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, rookie coach Jim Tomsula has been dismissed after a 5-11 season is his first year. Even though he ended the season with a 19-16 victory against the St. Louis Rams in a sparsely occupied Levi® Stadium, the 49ers are exploring new opportunities for a head coach.
When Tomsula was hired back in January of 2015, many fans were skeptical considering he had never been more than a position coach in the NFL. His only head-coaching experience at the professional level was in NFL Europe.
Perhaps the fans were right!
Tomsula expressed that his team practiced well during the week but could not deliver on Sundays.
The San Francisco 49ers have hired Chip Kelly to be their coach, 11 days after firing Jim Tomsula following a 5-11, one-and-done season. “Chip possesses all the qualities we were looking for in our next head coach,” Trent Baalke, 49ers Manager, said in a statement according to espn.com.
Chip Kelly is a veteran coach with a big name and clear vision. Perhaps this is just what the 49ers need.
Obviously the 2015-2016 season did not fair well and only the future knows what the future holds for the 49ers. In the meantime, we will sit back and watch as yet another transition for our beloved team takes place.
